Darfur Links Association Holds Militia Responsible for Abduction of Community Leader and Companions

The Darfur Links Association in the United Kingdom has revealed that it received credible reports indicating that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia abducted a number of unarmed civilians from the market in the town of Al-Muhajiriya in East Darfur State last Wednesday.

The association said the abducted group included Omda Omar Adibo along with sixteen other individuals, who were taken to an unknown location in an operation that constitutes a flagrant violation of human rights, a blatant assault on social and legal norms, and a direct threat to the security and stability of local communities.

In a statement, the association strongly condemned what it described as the militia’s “barbaric behavior” against innocent civilians.

It asserted that the incident forms part of a systematic pattern pursued by the RSF militia to target symbols and leaders of local communities through intimidation and abduction, forcing them to issue pre-scripted statements that do not reflect their will, and compelling them to read these statements in the media—an overt attempt to humiliate traditional leaders and exploit them to serve dubious agendas.

The statement noted that the Darfur region has witnessed numerous similar cases in recent months, amid a dangerous escalation that threatens the social fabric and deepens the suffering of civilians.

The association held the RSF militia fully responsible for the safety of Omda Omar Adibo and all those accompanying him, calling for the immediate disclosure of their place of detention, guarantees for their protection, and their unconditional release without delay.

It also urged regional and international human rights organizations, media outlets, and all people of conscience to intervene urgently and raise their voices against these grave violations, which target specific ethnic groups and threaten social peace in Darfur.

The statement concluded that silence in the face of such crimes only encourages their continuation and places the international community before its moral and legal responsibilities to protect civilians and end impunity.
