30,000 Gallons of Diesel Allocated to Ease Irrigation Bottlenecks in Gezira Scheme

The Governor of the Gezira Agricultural Scheme, Engineer Ibrahim Mustafa Ali, has announced the allocation of 30,000 gallons of diesel fuel, currently en route from Port Sudan to the Gezira Scheme, as part of an emergency plan aimed at addressing irrigation bottlenecks across the project.
The project’s irrigation coordinator, Engineer Othman Jasser Othman, stated that the shipment is expected to arrive on Tuesday, noting that the fuel will be distributed to excavation equipment operators to support the removal of silt deposits and weeds across the scheme’s various sections.
Meanwhile, the Director of the Irrigation Department at the Gezira Scheme, Engineer Mohamed Osman Al-Awad, confirmed that more than 120 excavation machines are currently operating, including long- and short-arm dredgers. These machines are actively clearing silt and vegetation from canals, waterways, and irrigation channels across all sections of the project, in implementation of the emergency plan approved by the scheme’s administration to ensure the success of the winter agricultural season.
