$19.3 Million in Pandemic Fund Support for Sudan’s Health Sector

Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance, Adviser Mohamed Nour Abdel Daim, announced that Sudan has secured $19.3 million in support from the Pandemic Fund to bolster the country’s health sector. The announcement came during his leadership of Sudan’s delegation at meetings of the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) held in Addis Ababa.

He revealed that Sudan achieved strategic understandings and financial gains aimed at strengthening the national health sector during the meetings.

On the sidelines of the event, the delegation held a series of high-level meetings with major donors and international partners, including the Director of Global Health at UNICEF, the Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean at the World Health Organization, the Chief Executive Officer of the Pandemic Fund, and the representative of the Vaccine Alliance to the African Union.

The discussions focused on key pillars, including mobilizing funding to combat epidemics, strengthening international advocacy, and securing technical and financial support. The meetings yielded preliminary understandings expected to enhance Sudan’s capacity to respond effectively to health emergencies.

In a move reflecting confidence in the recovery of national institutions, Abdel Daim extended an official invitation to partners and donors to visit Khartoum in the near future to assess firsthand the efforts undertaken and achievements realized despite prevailing challenges, identify existing gaps, and build smart and sustainable partnerships with the Sudanese government.

The Minister of State noted that these efforts fall within the government’s broader strategy to reinforce international cooperation and ensure the continued flow of assistance, laying solid foundations for a resilient and robust health system during the reconstruction phase.
