Liberia: Consulting with Sudan on the Role We Will Play in the UN Security Council

Liberian Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti began a two-day official visit to Sudan on Wednesday, during which she is holding talks with senior officials.

Upon her arrival, the minister and her accompanying delegation held discussions with her Sudanese counterpart, Mohi El-Din Salem, addressing a range of bilateral and international issues of mutual concern in light of Liberia’s membership on the UN Security Council.

In the same context, Sovereignty Council member and Deputy Commander-in-Chief Lt. Gen. Shams El-Din Kabashi received the Liberian foreign minister on Wednesday, in the presence of Foreign Minister Ambassador Mohi El-Din Salem and the Director-General of Liberia’s National Security Agency.

In a press statement following her meeting with the Sovereignty Council member, the Liberian foreign minister said the visit came in response to an official invitation from the Sudanese government to explore ways of strengthening bilateral relations, discuss issues of mutual interest, regional developments, and the ongoing war in Sudan.

She added that she looks forward to enhancing cooperation and conducting consultations with the Sudanese government regarding the role Liberia could play within the UN Security Council.
