Libyan security authorities have arrested 45 Sudanese refugees, including women and children, in two separate incidents in the city of Qarabulli and in the south of the country.
The Special Operations Department said in a brief statement on its official Facebook page that it had arrested nine Sudanese nationals in the Qarabulli area near Tripoli, who were found in possession of an inflatable boat they were preparing to use for an irregular migration journey toward European shores.
The detainees included five men, two women, and two children.
In a separate operation, the Anti-Illegal Migration Agency in eastern Libya reported that it had apprehended 36 Sudanese nationals inside a hideout in the desert west of Tazirbu on Friday while they were attempting to enter Libya through irregular migration routes.
The agency said they were transferred to the Kufra shelter center, where they were provided with food, water, and medical care due to their poor condition after a difficult journey through the desert, pending the completion of legal procedures against them.
Authorities revealed that those detained included 11 women and two children, in addition to 23 men suffering from deteriorating humanitarian and health conditions, who were transferred to receive necessary care.
