UK Cuts Aid to Africa, Keeps Sudan a Priority

Britain has announced plans to reduce international aid funding across most of Africa, while maintaining Sudan as a priority. The move, officials say, is intended to redirect development spending toward bolstering the defense sector.

Outlining the first round of spending allocations affected by the decision, Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, according to Reuters, confirmed that funding for Sudan, Ukraine, Lebanon, and the Palestinian territories will be protected from the cuts.

She added that while aid to Africa and the Middle East will be reduced, countries such as Somalia and Yemen will remain priorities, though they are expected to face reductions in direct grants.
