Trump Announces Temporary Halt to War

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday that the United States had held “good and constructive” talks with Iran, and that he had ordered the military to postpone any strikes on power stations and energy infrastructure in Iran for five days.
In a post on social media, Trump said discussions with Iran would continue throughout the week.
“I have instructed the Department of War to delay all military strikes on electricity facilities and energy infrastructure in Iran for five days. The matter depends on the success of the ongoing meetings and discussions,” he wrote.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Fars News Agency quoted a source as saying there had been no “direct contact with the United States, nor through intermediaries.”
The source added that Trump had backed down after learning that Iran’s targets would include all energy facilities in the region.
Tasnim News Agency also quoted an Iranian security source as saying that the Strait of Hormuz would not return to its pre-war status as long as the “psychological war” continues.
The source added that Trump’s five-day deadline indicates he is persisting with his plan, warning: “We will continue to respond and defend the country with full force.”
He further stated that Trump retreated after Iranian military threats became “credible.”
