Foreign Ministry Completes Its Relocation to Khartoum

A senior diplomatic source confirmed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has completed its relocation to the capital, Khartoum, by 100%, and has officially resumed its duties from the heart of the national capital. The source noted that a limited coordination office will remain in Port Sudan, including a document authentication unit and part of the protocol department, to follow up on the affairs of embassies still operating from the temporary administrative capital.

The source told (Al-Muhaqqiq) news website on Saturday that efforts are currently underway to rehabilitate old headquarters in Khartoum through extensive structural maintenance and comprehensive refurnishing, especially for embassies that own their premises. Missions that previously relied on rented facilities have already begun searching for suitable alternatives to serve as offices and residences for ambassadors and diplomats in a manner befitting international representation.

The source explained that preparing and operating diplomatic mission premises involves certain technical complexities, due to the need to involve the foreign ministries of the concerned countries in selecting and equipping locations according to protocol specifications and each country’s standards, which requires time to ensure compliance with diplomatic requirements.

Regarding international organizations, the source revealed that most of them have already relocated to resume their work in Khartoum, led by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the World Food Programme (WFP), and UNICEF, in addition to many other organizations. The rest are working to complete their gradual relocation to the capital in the coming period.

The source pointed out that the decisive factor in completing the relocation of missions and organizations is ensuring the stability of basic services such as electricity, water supply, telecommunications, and healthcare. He confirmed that these aspects are now nearly fully restored in Khartoum, which is accelerating the full return of diplomatic and international activity in the capital.
