Umma Party Critical of IGAD Summit communique
- Khartoum – Sudan Events
Mubarak Al-Fadil, head of the Umma Party, said that the IGAD emergency summit meeting has perpetuated the Rapid Support Forces (RSF)’s occupation of citizens’ homes and the looting of their property by deliberately ignoring the Jeddah Declaration of Principles signed in May, which stipulated the RSF’s eviction from citizens’ homes and public facilities. It also avoided condemning the killing, rape and genocide committed against civilians by the RSF.
He added that the summit linked ending the war to a meeting with Burhan Hemedti. He said his party would like to stress to IGAD and its partners that the Sudanese people are an essential party to peace, and if their homes and property were not returned to them, peace could not be reached.
He said equating the RSF with the army and the efforts seeking the returns the RSF as a partner in the political and military reconstruction of the state will not succeed, he stressed.
