The office of the Mineral Resources Company (SMRC) in South Kordufan seized 2 mixers, 3 bags of thiourea, 2 bags of carbon, and 2 sodas, which were on their way to (Bashaer) mine in Talodi locality.
The supervisor of the mining markets in the state of South Kordufan, geologist Saeed Mohamed Saeed, confirmed the arrest of the accused and taking legal action against them in Liri locality police.
The Environment and Safety Supervisor in the state of South Kordufan, Engineer Al-Sadiq Sandal, praised the industrious efforts exerted by the company’s employees in Liri locality, including the local supervisor, Abdullah Al-Faki Ali Musa, and the production supervisor, geologist Abu Al-Qasim Ali Mahmoud, who is assigned with the tasks of monitoring environmental and safety requirements in Liri locality, in addition to cooperation and coordination with security and minerals economies. Sandal warned the civil administrations and notables of the region against the consequences of ratifying and cooperating with the owners of the mixers as the matter is in violation of the Mineral Resources Law and the negative impacts on the region’s environment, noting the importance of miners adhering to occupational safety and health standards and preserving the environment.
Meanwhile, the SMRC renewed its warnings against the use of materials and equipment that are harmful to the environment and their impacts on the safety and health of humans and animals.
The local or traditional mining areas in the Liri Talwi and Kalogi triangle in the state of South Kordufan had suffered from the negative use of chemicals used in gold extraction, such as mercury, cyanide, and mixtures utilizing thiourea, which led to abortions among pregnant women, in addition to the emergence of several skin diseases and the killing of livestock.
