Sinnar: Relative stability

Sudan Events-Follow-ups

Eyewitnesses and activists confirmed that the situation in the city of Sinnar, Sinnar State, southeastern Sudan, is witnessing cautious stability and calmness, after battles and air strikes took place between the army and the Rapid Support militia in the neighboring Sinnar Sugar Factory area this morning.
The Rapid Support militia marched towards Sinnar, which is adjacent to the state of Gezira, after it seized most of its areas starting on December 15. It entered its capital, Wad Madani, last Monday, and set up outposts in some areas leading to Sinnar.
Citizens of Sennar confirmed to Sudan Events that life in the city is almost normal, despite the state of anxiety resulting from the sounds of air raids and gunfire exchanged between the army and the Rapid Support in the area.
Eyewitnesses reported that some merchants and citizens began taking precautions and transporting goods and storing them in safe places in anticipation of the battles to reach inside the city, which is not far from the area of the current clashes, which, despite stopping, are more likely to erupt again. They confirmed the presence of a large deployment of armed forces in the city.
The Sinnar Youth Gathering volunteer said that, in continuation of the battles, warplanes bombed a gathering of Rapid Support Forces in the Sinnar Sugar Factory area this morning.
In a later statement, the group confirmed the stability of the situation inside the city of Sinnar, “Life has begun again in the shops amid a state of fear and tension.” It said.
“The Sukar Sennar area is witnessing a state of cautious calmness, panic spreading throughout the region and cases of displacement.” It added. The group noted the heavy deployment of the army inside the city of Sennar.
The group explained that the major hospital has resumed work (diabetes and emergency departments) and some private hospitals, and said that there is a need for medical staff and nurses for hospitals, and for food and medicine for shelter centers.
The groups confirmed that the Rapid Support militias are still present in Wad Al-Haddad area and are looting, stealing, and terrorizing citizens.
The militia has a habit of storming homes in the areas it invades and looting property, especially cars and gold, in addition to arresting citizens and accusing them of cooperating with the army and committing many other violations.
