The United States imposes sanctions on Hemedti’s brother

On Wednesday, the US Treasury Department announced the imposition of sanctions on the Deputy Commander of the Rapid Support Forces in Sudan, Abdel Rahim Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti’s brother), due to his forces committing acts of violence and human rights violations, including targeting civilians, ethnic killings, and using sexual violence.
“Since the beginning of the conflict between the Rapid Support Forces and the Sudanese Armed Forces on April 15, 2023, both sides have failed to implement a ceasefire, and the Rapid Support Forces and their allied militias have been accused of committing widespread human rights violations in Darfur and elsewhere.” Added the ministry.
Nelson, said, “Today’s action (Wednesday) demonstrates the Department of the Treasury’s commitment to holding accountable those responsible for gross and widespread human rights violations in Sudan.” Said Brian E., Treasury Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence.
“The United States urges both sides of the conflict to stop the hostilities and acts of violence that lead to the continuation of the dire humanitarian crisis in Sudan.” He continued.
The Ministry indicated that as a result of the action taken today (Wednesday), his access to all property and interests listed under his name in the United States, or in the possession or control of American persons, will be prohibited, and must be reported to the Office of Foreign Assets Control.
In addition, any entities owned, directly or indirectly, individually or in the aggregate, 50 percent or more by one or more of the sanctioned persons will also be sanctioned.
“In addition, financial institutions and other persons who engage in certain transactions or activities with sanctioned entities and individuals may expose themselves to sanctions, or be subject to enforcement actions. The sanctions include the prohobition of making any contribution or provision of funds, goods or services by any certain person for the benefit of that person, or to receive any contribution or provision of money, goods or services from any such person.” The US official added
