Qatar Red Crescent distributes 40 tons of aid in River Nile State

Today, Qatar Red Crescent distributed 40 tons of food aid in River Nile State, in cooperation with the Sudanese Red Crescent Society, and in the presence of Dr. Tahani Mirghani, Minister of Social Welfare in the state, Afaf Taj Al-Sir, Commissioner of Humanitarian Aid in the state, and Osman Muhammad Osman, Executive Director of Al-Damer Locality.

The number of the benefited from this aid were 1,000 families and received parcels containing basic food items, including sugar, tea, cooking oil, rice, lentils and flour sufficient for the family for two weeks, in addition to other non-food items. This aid targeted the displaced people affected by the war in the city of Atbara, in addition to the displaced people affected by the floods in the areas south of Damar.

Dr. Tahani Mirghani, Minister of Social Welfare in the Nile River State, thanked the State of Qatar and the Qatar Red Crescent for standing by Sudan and for their continued support for those affected by the situatons in Sudan. The minister indicated that the current aid targets people who came to the state to escape the fighting in Khartoum, and whose suffering increased due to the floods that occurred in the state. For his part, Dr. Salah Daak, Head of the Qatar Red Crescent Office in Sudan, said that the aid distributed today aims to help more than five thousand people in the Nile River State who are displaced people affected by war and floods in the state, and comes within a multi-sectoral project to help those affected by the conflict in Sudan. Which is implemented by Qatar Red Crescent. It is worth noting that the Qatari Red Crescent was one of the first organizations that took the initiative to provide humanitarian aid to those affected since the beginning of the conflict through a Qatari air bridge, as it was able to reach 12 states and provide urgent medical, health and food assistance to those affected in those states.
