Sudan: Pharmceutical Security of The Citizen at Risk

The ongoing war between the SAF and the RSF Militia in mid-April affected all aspects of life, especially the health sector by occupying health facilities, burning some of them and demolishing others, that contributed to the interruption of the medical supply, especially followed the great damage at headquarters of the National Medical Supply Fund NMSF in Khartoum and headquarters in some states.
The burning, looting and occupation of headquarters of medical supplies in Khartoum led to the loss of the main stock of pharmaceutical supplies in the country of devices, equipments and medicines, estimated at about $ 500 million.

Many countries and organizations, especially Arab and regional organizations, have contributed in providing support and assistance to the health sector, despite insufficient to cover actual need during the continuous fighting,that has entered seventh month and expanded to include other states, particularly in Darfur region.
According to latest report of the medical supply in the period from last April to this October, amounted to 2,625 tons of medicines and medical consumables from several donors, while the national supply through medical supplies amounted to 3,571 tons.
According to sources, what is available through the national supply exceeds 50%, and this makes it clear that the incoming through grants and donations cannot be relied upon to achieve the medicine abundance of 85%, according to the indicators of the WHO
In a statement to (Sudan Events) (Monday), the head of the Logistics Health Committee, Dr. Khalil Mohamed Ibrahim, affirmed coordination between all concerned authorities to receive medical support and prepare lists of needs, whether medicines or consumables, to be submitted to partners from donors, countries or organizations, and noted that the grants are exempt from government fees and under correspondence, provided that the name of the addressee bears the Federal Ministry of Health, as well as exempt organizations according to prior agreements that can be benefited from through direct correspondence to the concerned government agencies and represented by the Ministry of Finance.
