Delaying of Teachers’ Salaries Hinders Beginning of School year in Sudan

Beginning of the school year in Sudan faces several obstacles, most notably the demands of teachers to pay their salary arrears suspended due to the war.

The governor of Gezira State accused the Sudanese Ministry of Finance of evading its responsibility towards paying salaries, although it is the one that increases salaries, adding that this repudiation hinders the start of the school year, considering that the disruption of education is one of the war that caused a major imbalance in the practical process.

The Committee for the Resumption of the School year in the state has submitted recommendations to the federal government, including the arrears of teachers’ salaries from May to November, the maintenance of schools and the absorption of international students, whose numbers are estimated at more than 40 thousand students, in addition to finding remedies for the situation of war displaced people residing inside schools.
