UN Special Rapporteur: Four-Hour Pause “Very Cynical and Cruel”
Sudan Events – Sumaya Sayed
UN special rapporteur on the Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese has described Israel’s decision to allow four-hour pauses in fighting as “very cynical and cruel”.
“Continuous bombings, 6,000 bombs occurred every week on the Gaza Strip, where people are trapped, and the destruction is massive. There won’t be any way back after what Israel is doing to the Gaza Strip,” Albanese told reporters in Adelaide, Australia, according to the Associated Press.
“So, four hours ceasefire, yes, to let people breathe and to remember what is the sound of life without bombing before starting to bomb them again. It’s very cynical and cruel.”
Her remarks come after the White House said Israel would begin to implement the hours-long pauses in parts of northern Gaza to allow people to leave. But there are yet to be clear signs of this taking place.
