ROME – Murano glass and contemporary art will meet in Venice this holiday season with “Murano Lights the World,” a project that brings original lighting to Piazza San Marco for the first time. From November 24, 2023 to February 29, 2024, every evening twelve chandeliers designed by world-famous artists and made by nine Murano kilns will be illuminated, transforming the famous square into a place of artistic intervention.
“Glass is almost a paradox: it is cold, but it needs a lot of warmth to be produced,” said Venice Mayor Luigi Brugnaro. “It is a natural and recyclable material, and it has found its home in Murano and will have an exceptional display in Piazza San Marco, a display that focuses on the excellence of our craftsmanship and the innovation of our traditions.”
