Sudan Supports Saudi bid in Paris

Israel announced yesterday, Monday, that it was withdrawing its support for Saudi Arabia to host Expo 2030, and Tel Aviv confirmed that it would support Italy in place of previous support it promised to provide to Saudi Arabia in order to win, citing the change of position was brought by Saudi Arabia’s stand vis-a-vis the Gaza war.
The Saudi capital, Riyadh, is competing with the Italian cities of Rome and the South Korean city of Bussan to host Expo 2030, after the Ukrainian city of Odessa was excluded because of the Russian-Ukrainian war.
Riyadh’s bid to host Expo 2030 focuses on three themes: “A Better Tomorrow,” “Climate Action,” and “Prosperity for All”. The final vote to choose the winning city is scheduled to take place today, Tuesday.
Voting will be held through a secret ballot during the 173rd General Assembly of the Bureau of International Exhibitions (BIE) in the French capital, Paris, in the presence of countries’ delegates to the BIE.
Sudan announced its support for Saudi Arabia’s nomination file, as Sudan’s Acting Foreign Minister Ali Al-Sadig will participate in the event today, Tuesday, along with a number of African foreign minister to whom HH Prince Farhan Bin Faisal extended an invitation to come to Paris and support the Kingdom.
It is noteworthy that “Expo” is an international exhibition that is held every 5 years in different countries around the world with the aim of displaying achievements in several fields. The International Expo is considered as the third most important event after the FIFA World Cup and the Olympic Games in terms of economic impact.
