Sudan Gets Rid of the Turkish Barge

The Vice Head of the Sudanese Sovereignt Council, Malek Agar, revealed the agreement with the Minister of Energy and Oil, Mohieddin Naeem Mohamed Saeed, to get rid of the Turkish barge, which costs the government of Sudan about eight million dollars a month. He set the maximum period for disposal to be 10 months from the date the plan was drawn up, and he pledged during his meeting (Wednesday) with the Minister of Energy and part of the directors of the Sudanese Electricity Company departments, the he will personally follow up the issue of getting rid of the barge.
The Director of the Generation Department at the Electricity Generation Company provided enlightenment on the progress of work during the war period and the management strategy that the company followed after the outbreak of war at the beginning of this year.
He revealed the extent of the damage that befell the generation stations and the extent of the losses they suffered during the past seven months. He also mentioned the strategy established by the administration working on preventive and periodic maintenance, he confirmed that it is proceeding normally, but he added that there is a challenge regarding carrying out maintenance operations on the specified dates, and he explained the size of the financial sums required for maintenance and operation operations.
For his part, the Director of Electricity Distribution at the Sudanese Electricity Company, Amin Othman Yusuf, indicatedx that the increase in electricity tariffs in the year 2022 covers only 31% of the needs of this administration, while the Ministry of Finance supports 69% of the sector’s total needs, and financial support is limited to providing fuel, which led to improved performance in the previous period. He pointed out that during the war period they faced a problem after the outbreak of the war, which was the problem of the server and its operation, but recently the server was restored and now sales to the public are taking place normally, however, there is a problem in collection in Khartoum State, which is the state that used to subsidize electricity with 70% of total sales.
On the other hand, Aqar pointed out that Amin Othman explained the maintenance operations currently taking place in Khartoum and the efforts of the engineers who are doing heroic work to perform their duty in light of extremely difficult complications.
“Engineer Yasser Muhammad Al-Shazly, Director of the Electrical Transmission Company, which is the responsible body for transmitting electricity from generation to the distribution center, came forward and pointed out that they had lost the control center as a result of its destruction and occupation by the rebel forces, but arrangements had been made to open a new control center in the state of Sennar and it had been provided with the necessary equipment, and it was being prepared.” He added.
He mentioned that the centre works 24-hour shift, and he referred to generators that are out of work.
