European Gymnastics Federation banned the Russians from participating in the championships, despite the decision of the International Gymnastics Federation, that opened to allow return of the Russians to international competitions..
Russians will not be able to participate in the European Championships as of January 1, 2024, contrary to the decision of the International Gymnastics Federation.
This came via a tweet by the organization via its account on “X”: “The General Assembly of European Gymnastics voted against allowing athletes and officials from Russia and Belarus to return to official European gymnastics competitions from January 1, 2024 onwards, and therefore does not follow the decision of the International Gymnastics Federation.”
The International Gymnastics Federation issued a statement last month on acceptance of Russian and Belarusian athletes and the possibility of participating in international championships on the condition of neutral status and without national symbols, and that they do not have links to the armed forces or security agencies in their countries.
