Singer Weili: at crossfire of Repentance and Retirement
Report – Magda Hassan
The Singer Salah Weili’s retirement from singing received widespread attention. It sparked reactions characterized by wit, sarcasm, and acceptance among social media pioneers.
He was a young singer who was famous for performing acrobatic movements
While singing, he announced his repentance last week in front of the reciter Sheikh Al-Zein.
Some commentators attributed the reason for his retirement to a feeling of frustration, which they believed would go away and the artist would return to his activity.
Similar experiences
Others pointed to similar experiences most notably the retirement of artist Abdullah Al-Baayou, who is characterized by a showy style that is somewhat similar to Wali’s way of singing. It is reported that Al-Baayou retired, repented, and worked as a (Muezzin)absent from singing for years. He returned with a (Fatwa )and then continued singing from where he left off. Weili does not hide his admiration for Baayou, but he denies being influenced by him and says that his way of moving is universal and is not understood by many. Among the funny comments about Weili,’s movement is
(Salah was singing at a party in Omdurman. Suddenly he took off the microphone and my neighbor stood up. People ran and saw him. Until they found him in Al-Fitaihab, where he presented the second break for them there.)
With the same sarcastic nature about the repentance of my guardian, there was a comment title:
Salah Weili comedy at the mosque
(After how many months can one imagine a scene of congregational Friday prayers? After the prayer, the preacher Salah Weili ascends the pulpit, removes the microphone from the stand, holds it with the right, and the cord with the left, and moves right and left in the pulpit.)
Distortion of singing
I told the artist, Saif Al-Jamea, that repentance for the singing does not imply that art is a bad thing that violates values. His response was similar to a wave of public ridicule: If singing was this way, we would all never have tried it at all. Singing reaches the stage of jumping high and landing on the knees, which is impossible for the rest of the artists, and he added angrily:
What is his relationship with singing in the first place? If he had had an idea, he would not have (singing for the people’s rights and in a bad, unintelligent way). I think his retirement is a blessing. Singing without distortion. If all the singing was like what Salah and I presented, we would all have retired, mayAllah bless Bashkatib.
