Israel ‘Targeting Hospitals’ to shut them
Sudan Events – Sumaya Sayed
Gaza’s Health Ministry has accused Israel of intentionally striking hospitals to shut them down, creating a “circle of death” for wounded and displaced Palestinians.
“The Israeli occupation is deliberately bombing hospitals in Gaza to put them out of service,” Health Ministry spokesperson Ashraf al-Qudra said, adding that it was causing a “circle of death” for medical workers, along with the displaced and wounded.
Al-Qudra added that Israel had bombed several areas where displaced Palestinians were taking shelter near Gaza City, including the Salah ad-Din school, a building near the al-Ahli Arab Hospital and a crowded square.
Only nine of Gaza’s 35 hospitals are still operational, and health officials warn that the Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza could close down within hours due to a lack of electricity.
The hospitals that remain operational are struggling to cope with “an influx of dead bodies”, director-general of Gaza’s Health Ministry Munir al-Bursh told Al Jazeera earlier today.
