Ukraine’s air defence forces downed 10 out of 17 Russian combat drones in various regions across Ukraine overnight, the Air Force said on Tuesday.

“On the night of December 5, 2023, the enemy attacked with Shahed-136/131 combat UAVs from two directions – Russia’s Kursk region and Primorsko-Akhtarsk, as well as S-300 anti-aircraft guided missiles, which were launched at civilian facilities in Donetsk region and Kherson region. A total of 17 Shahed-type combat UAVs and six S-300 anti-aircraft guided missiles were recorded,” the Air Force said according to state news agency Ukrinform.

On the other side, Russian air defence destroyed 22 drones launched by Ukraine in addition to the interception of 13 more over the Azov Sea and Crimea, the Russian Defence Ministry said on Tuesday.

“An attempt of the Kyiv regime to carry out a terrorist attack with the use of UAVs in the night against facilities on the Russian territory was thwarted,” the ministry said.

It added: “Air defence units on duty destroyed 22 Ukrainian UAVs and intercepted 13 more over the Sea of Azov and in the airspace over the Republic of Crimea.”

This comes as drone warfare intensifies between Moscow and Kyiv, with both sides using UAVs to strike the heartland of the other side, usually targeting vital infrastructure.

The Kremlin had stated that a clear and present danger of potential drone attacks on Moscow exists, and appropriate security measures are being taken.
