The UN envoy to Libya Abdoulaye Bathily said that in continuation to his ongoing engagement with Libyan stakeholders, he had met with a delegation of political and social figures from Fezzan and they engaged in a productive discussion on the political process and the importance of inclusivity.

According to Bathily, the Fezzan delegation reaffirmed commitment to a constructive dialogue and urged for fair representation of their region in the upcoming nominations by the key actors.

Bathily extended on November 23 invitations to key Libyan institutional stakeholders to attend a meeting in the coming period to reach a settlement on the politically contested issues pertaining to the implementation of the electoral process.

UNSMIL said in a statement that Bathily had requested the institutional stakeholders to designate representatives to participate in a preparatory meeting, adding that the designated representatives of the Presidential Council, House of Representatives, High Council of State, Government of National Unity and the General Command of the “Libyan National Army” would discuss the date, venue, and agenda of the meeting of their principals.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aqila Saleh, and the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, announced conditional approval to attend the five-party meeting, while the Head of the High Council of State, Mohammed Takala, named three members to represent them in the meetings, while the Head of the Presidential Council, Mohammed Menfi, and Khalifa Haftar did not make any statement about the invitation until now.
