Army&RSF Trade Accusations Over Refinery Shelling
Khartoum – Sudan Events
The Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces exchanged accusations on Wednesday of targeting the Al-Jili refinery for the second time and causing severe damage to the important oil facility.
Al-Jili refinery is located about 70 km north of Khartoum, and is considered one of the largest refineries in Sudan.
“The rebel militia caused a fire in some facilities of the Khartoum refinery in Al-Jili and destroyed the control unit.” Sudanese army spokesperson said
He absolved the army of responsibility for the incident, “The loyalty of the national armed forces and their deep-rooted doctrine prevent them from committing such barbaric behavior by destroying national capabilities.” He said.
The spokesman held the Rapid Support Forces and the mercenaries, who he said were brought from abroad, fully responsible for this crime and the resulting damage to the facility and the residents of the surrounding areas.
Activists broadcast video clips showing columns of smoke rising as a result of the massive fires that broke out in parts of the oil site, and platforms affiliated with the Rapid Support Forces broadcast images showing massive destruction in the control center inside the refinery.
The refinery, which has been controlled by the Rapid Support Forces since the first days of the start of the war, has previously been targeted more than once, most recently on November 7, when a huge fire broke out inside the headquarters of the Nile about standing behind it.
