Committee: Mining Sector Endures Huge Losses

The Secretary-General of the Steering Committee for Goldsmiths and Miners in the Al-Ebaidiya “Mills” Market, Ali Mohammed Siyam, revealed that the loss of miners and goldsmiths in the production areas and the traditional market for gold in Khartoum due to the implementation of Decision No. 44 of the Sudanese Mineral Resources Company to collect 400 pounds per one gram of gold via the transport form.
Last week the Ministry of Finance announced decided that the form was free and no fees should be imposed on any gram of gold destined for export.
Ali who is member of the Preliminary Committee of the National Mining Trade Union in Sudan, has revealed that the losses are estimated at about 51 million dollars during one year.
He argued that the collection continued for more than two years, and he stressed in his interview with (Sudan Events) the necessity of issuing decisions and official measures taken after announcing a free gold transport form, to address the remaining problems and issues related to the metal and its miner
