UNICEF: Development Projects in Gezira

The country official for UNICEF in Africa, Mandev Ukrain, announced the activation of partnership with Gezira State in implementing a number of joint projects in the fields of shelter, health, education, water and infrastructure.
She explained during a meeting with the Gezira State government that the meeting aimed to identify the challenges facing the state in the field of health, education and child protection, particularly since the state receives large numbers of displaced person as a result of the ongoing war in the country. She said the state has a strong health system that contributed to stabilizing the health situation and controlling the spread of epidemics.
In the meantime, the Ministry of Finance report confirmed that the Gezira is one of the states that are most affected by the war, as the war led to a decrease in the state’s revenues, the cessation of federal transfers, and hosting huge numbers of displaced persons, that turned the state’s budget into an emergency budget, which affected services in the state.
