UN: Time to end this conflict

Martin Griffiths, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, expressed his deep dismay at the continued fighting in Sudan.
Griffiths said on Friday that the clashes taking place today near Wad Medani city threaten tens of thousands of civilians who have already been displaced due to the conflict, adding that the city represents a humanitarian center and should not be threatened by clashes.
Today, Friday, the Rapid Support militia attacked villages in the areas east of the city of Wad Medani, the capital of Gezira State in central Sudan – 190 kilometers south of the capital, Khartoum, before army units confronted it. The local authorities there issued a decision to declare a curfew in the city from 6 p.m. until 6 a.m.
The United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator stressed that the time has come to end this conflict.
