More than 300 deals were signed by Saudi League clubs in the last summer transfer market, during which they included international stars after competing with well-established European clubs for their services.

Al Hilal’s inclusion of Brazilian Neymar, who only played five matches due to injury, and bringing Frenchman Karim Benzema to Al-Ittihad may be the most prominent deals in Saudi history, after Al-Nasr’s success in the middle of last season in contracting with the five-time best player in the world, Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo.

The stars of the game were distributed among a number of clubs, most notably Al-Hilal, Al-Nasr, Al-Ittihad and Al-Ahly, as the latter signed Algerian Riyad Mahrez from English Manchester City and Senegalese goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

Al-Ittihad, the defending champion, included Frenchman N’Golo Kante and Brazilian Fabinho, while Al-Nasr signed Senegalese Sadio Mane and Croatian Marcelo Brozovic. While Serbian Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, his compatriot Aleksandar Mitrovic, Portuguese Ruben Neves, Senegalese Khalidou Koulibaly and Moroccan goalkeeper Yacine Bounou moved to Al Hilal, which is currently flying in the league standings.

It is worth noting that the agreement was signed with English coach Steven Gerrard and his compatriot, international midfield captain Jordan Henderson.

These contracts prompted Spanish coach Pep Guardiola, who won the Champions League title with Manchester City, to consider that Saudi Arabia had “changed the transfer market.”

Saudi Arabia is ahead on the map of the sports arena, and it is the only candidate to host the 2034 World Cup, in addition to hosting other international sporting events such as the Dakar Desert Rally, the World Cup for Handball Clubs, and major sporting events
