MSF resumes work in El Geneina

Sudan Events-Follow-ups

Doctors Without Borders (MSF), an independent international medical humanitarian organization, announced mdical assistance is provided to people affected by conflicts, epidemics and disasters, with a partial return to health work in the city of El Geneina, West Darfur.
Stephen Cornish, Director General of the organization’s Geneva Operations Center, said on Tuesday that the teams from the Ministry of Health and the organization had returned to El Geneina to manage the children’s ward and medical nutrition.
Stephen noted that much must be done to restore services to the pre-conflict level. “It is unlikely that many of those who took refuge in Chad will return here any time soon.” He added.
The city had witnessed acts of violence and ethnic cleansing that claimed a large number of deaths. Human Rights Watch said that the Rapid Support Forces and their allied militias killed hundreds of civilians in West Darfur in early November 2023.
The forces also committed looting, assaults, and illegal detention against dozens of Masalit in Ardamata, a suburb of El Geneina in West Darfur.
