Expert: Gold Exports Decline Expected
Sudan Events: Nahid Oshi
Prof. Ibrahim Onour, Professor of Economics and Finance at the University of Khartoum, expected a continued decline in gold exports during the years 2024-2025.
In terms of the fact that 80% of gold production comes through private mining, which is not controlled by the state and is smuggled across the border out of the country, he indicated in a statement to Sudan Events that the year 2021 witnessed the smuggling of more than 200 tons, while the official total of gold does not exceed 30 tons per year.
He said, based on estimates, 80% of gold production is smuggled abroad, given that most of the private mining areas, e.g the Red Sea, Northern states, South Kordufan, Darfur, and Blue Nile, are situated far away from the Center and presence of the authorities
