In a repetition of the almost daily confrontations that have characterized the scene in the Sudanese capital since the outbreak of violent conflict between the army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in mid-April, Khartoum witnessed, on Sunday, clashes between the two sides.

Al-Arabiya/Al-Hadath correspondent reported that the army targeted, via drones, RSF sites in the Sharg Al-Neel suburb and the neighborhoods of Buri, Al-Safa and Arkawit, east of Khartoum.

Thick plumes of smoke also rose from the central Khartoum area, as a result of the army targeting RSF sites.

The latter fired a number of artillery shells towards the army headquarters in the center of the capital.

These military confrontations came after a violent night that witnessed intense battles between the two sides, as strong explosions rang out and smoke rose after an exchange of artillery and missile shelling between the army from the General Command headquarters in the center of the capital, and the RSF in their areas east of Khartoum.

It also came after Army Commander Abdul Fattah Al-Burhan declined an invitation to attend the IGAD summit seeking to resolve the Sudanese crisis, because of the invitation to RSF’s Commander Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo, (Hemedti).

It is noteworthy that the fierce confrontations between the two major military forces in the country have been continuing for months, claiming the lives of about ten thousand people and causing the displacement of seven million Sudanese, while Khartoum has been plunged into many problems, including water and electricity outages, as well as communications at times, in addition to the cessation of many hospitals being out of service, in addition to banks.

While various parties – regional and international – sought to mediate between the two sides of the fighting, and representatives of both parties met in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, twice several months ago, but all of these efforts have been crowned failure.
