Kasala Issues Publication and Media Ban

The Governor of Kasala, Muhammad Musa Abdel Rahman, has issued Emergency Order No. (3) for 2024, according to which any person working to prepare or use the media network or any means of information, communication or applications is prohibited from publishing, copying or transmitting any news or rumor in a way that harms people, undermines public security, safety, or tranquility or diminishes the prestige of the state.
The order also prohibits any publishing, transmitting, copying, or sending through any means of communication or applications any information or news related to the regular forces, their movements, the state government, or any of its various agencies or units without authorization from the competent authorities in the government secretariat or the regular agencies.
The order says any breach is punishable by the law. The penalty ranging from imprisonment for a period not exceeding two years, along with a fine of one million pounds, and the penalty will be doubled if the violation is repeated.
The order came based on the declaration of a state of emergency for Kasala State and the text of Article (5) of the Emergency and Safety Protection Law of 1997. The order applies within the geographical borders of Kasala State.
