A visiting Sudanese Musician and academic has succeeded in grasping the attention of a wide audience of Sudanese, Omani and other nationals interested in Sudanese tunes, songs and historical development, capped with musical performance to show each genre.
“We were able to present sample of Sudanese music, its developments and chronology to wide audience in the Omani capital, Muscat, where we briefed the audience on the Sudanese music,” Dr Al-Fatih Hussein said.
As Dr Fatih is musician par excellence and not only academic, he was also able to couple words with musical performance
Commenting on the symposium and how it was received by the audience which of course included Sudanese and Omani interested in the Sudanese music and songs as well as other nationals, he said it was a success by all standards, given the interaction and the response of the audience.
Dr Fatih said he seized the occasion to present to his audience the main features of the Sudanese music and the melody the rhythm, the tune, the lyrics and the poetry beside the historical development of the music, from its origins, going through the normal development in tune and in poetry, then the period of the Radio and the Hagiba, then the development of what it known the Jazz a general generic name used by the Sudanese though it has no relations with the negro jazz of the black Americans and the Caribbean etc.
He said he took them in a promenade in the various stages when he talked to the audience about the earlier stages where singing depended on the voice and the clapping then the introduction of simple form of drum, lute and then the different types of string instruments the violins in the 1930s, and the developments that occurred when the first musical band was formed on Omdurman Radio in 1947.
He provided details of the history of this beautiful art of singing and how in the Sudan it was perfumed naturally prior to the classification, sorting and studying of the music which culminated with the creation of the Higher Institute of Music and Theater in 1969, and what it heart throbbing production that reached one of its peaks with the formation of musical and to some extent performance banks, e.g. the Samandal Band, Igid Jalad, , and more recently the choir of the Faculty of Music and Drama.
The event has also seen numerous interventions, question and answer from the audience and generous response from Dr Fatih, one of the prominent musical talent Sudan has produced so far bringing together academia with sheer genius performance.
It was clear that he was able, relying on his academic background and thorough knowledge and performance savoir, to guide the audience to visit the various corners of beauty in the Sudanese music and singing, an accolade of theory and practical, saying and showing. It was a captivating performance
Last March, Dr Fatih participated in an event as a representative of Sudan in the Arab Music Academy where he presented scientific papers which he said was well received as well
