EU Foils Kenyan plot against Sudan

Sudan Events – follow up

During the IGAD Extraordinary Summit held in the Ugandan capital of Kampala, the Kenyan President had proposed that Hemedti take the seat of the Sudan, but the European Union opposed and threatened to pull out of the summit thus aborted the move.
Informed sources within IGAD said the Kenyan president William Ruto had proposed during the summit meeting in the Ugandan capital of Kampala that the leader of the Rapid Support Forces Militia, Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, take the Sudan seat during the summit, after the Sudanese Sovereign council announced it had boycotted the summit and frozen its membership within the Authority.
The sources said the proposal submitted by Ruto found strong support from regional forces allied to him but the EU envoy to the Horn of African, Annett Viber strongly opposed the proposal and threatened that if it was implemented the EU would boycott the summit which it attends in its capacity of observer. She also said IGAD was not a neutral mediation forum and that its mediation was not neutral and was siding with the RSF. She was backed in her position by the Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister who was also attending the summit as observer. It was then that Ruto pulled back along with the regional forces supporting him.
