Jurists Confirm UAE and Wagner Involvement in Sudan War
Sudan Events / Follow-ups
A Sudanese human rights entity has confirmed that the persistent information about the involvement of the United Arab Emirates and the Russian Wagner group in the ongoing war in Sudan matches the information it has already amassed .
The Darfur Bar Association (DBA) and its partners said in a statement today (Friday) that they have been receiving frequent information from several sources and regions about the activities of the UAE, especially in Darfur, which has become a crossing and market for weapons and military equipment, and about the role of the UAE in the current war and in military supplies and its activities in the countries of the Western Belt of Africa and Libya.
It confirmed that the information leaked about the report attributed to the Committee of Experts of the United Nations Security Council included information that was almost identical to the information of the DBA.
The DBA announced the start of consultations on the legal measures that must be taken to compel the two main parties to the war (Al-Burhan/Hemedti) to work to stop it immediately, and expressed its feeling of deep regret that the country has become an arena for foreign agendas and interests in order to achieve them. The country is witnessing total destruction, widespread killing, and the displacement of citizens. The DBA denounced the waste of citizens’ right to life.
It stated that it had been warning for years against the consequences of the country entering into civil wars that would lead to comprehensive chaos.
It added that after the ouster of Omar Al-Bashir regime, it sent a delegation to investigate the areas of Western Darfur, and published its initial report on the military presence of Wagner forces in the Um Dafouk border region with the Central African country, accompanied by pictures of Wagner forces, their military vehicles, and a military airstrip, and it said that this presence of Wagner was with the knowledge of the Military Council.
The DBA confirmed that it had heard testimonies from Sudanese regular members who confirmed that they were working with Wagner in the west of the country and that they had been officially dispatched from their regular units.
It pointed out that when Abdullah Hamdok assumed the presidency of the Council of Ministers of the Revolutionary Government under the partnership, the DBA sent a copy of the initial report on the military presence of Wagner forces in the Umm Dafouk region to the Prime Minister’s Office. It also published the initial report in the media for Sudanese public opinion, accompanied by photographs.
