Spanish coach Pep Guardiola, Manchester City’s coach, commented on German Jurgen Klopp’s announcement that he will leave Liverpool at the end of the current season.

Guardiola said after the match between City and Tottenham in the cup: “I am a little surprised by the news of his departure. Klopp is an amazing coach.”

He added: “Although I do not know him personally closely, I think he is also a wonderful person, so I feel that when he leaves at the end of the season, part of us in Manchester City will leave with him, because Liverpool, under his leadership, was the fiercest competitor for years.”

Pep confirmed: “Personally, Klopp was my arch rival, both when he was at Borussia Dortmund and here, so I will miss him greatly.”

He concluded jokingly: “I will be a little happy, because I will sleep better before facing Liverpool… but I wish him success, and he will definitely come back again.”

Guardiola joined City a year after Klopp arrived at Liverpool, and the two have competed at the top of English football ever since, as they faced off 29 times in various competitions, Klopp winning 12 times, Guardiola winning 11 times, and six matches ended in a draw.
