Al-Fula – Sudan Events
The competent authorities in West Kordofan State have revealed that the number of people displaced from the town of Babanusa as a result of the war exceeded 60,000 people, and explained the interventions that were made to relieve the arrivals.
The state’s Humanitarian Emergency Committee held a meeting chaired by the Secretary-General of the Government, the committee’s supervisor, Sabri Youssuf Jubara.
According to SUNA today (Tuesday), the Humanitarian Aid Commissioner, the committee’s rapporteur, Mohammad Yousuf Eissa, provided a detailed explanation of the situation in the state, especially after the large displacement movement of Babanusa citizens as a result of the war, which left extremely complex humanitarian conditions.
He said that the number of displaced people from Babanusa exceeded sixty thousand people, distributed among the localities (Al-Fula, Al-Muglad, Ghubaysh and Umm Jak administrative unit in Al-Odeya locality, which hosts more than five thousand individuals), and some areas are being monitored and reviewed.
The Commissioner referred to the interventions made by the citizens of Al-Fula with feeding, food materials, cash support, and clothing, as well as the interventions of Concern International and the Humanitarian Emergency Committee, while some organizations committed to providing possible support.
For his part, the Acting Director General of the Ministry of Health and Social Development, Chairman of the Committee, Dr. Musa Al-Nour, and the Director of Health Emergencies and Epidemic Control in the Ministry, Doria Abdullah Hamed, explained the current health situation in the state. Dr. Musa said that services are flowing smoothly in Al-Fula and Ghubaysh hospitals, while Al-Muglad Hospital needs some interventions.
In the meantime, Doria noted the spread of the cholera epidemic in neighboring states and the need for integrated roles to limit its entry into the state, especially in light of the large displacement of citizens and the fragility of the health system in the state.
For his part, the Secretary-General of the Government, who supervises the committee, Sabri Youssuf Jubara, directed that roles be integrated to provide the services and support required for those arriving from Babanusa in the various localities, and to provide medical treatment services free of charge, provided that the Ministry of Finance pays the costs of treatment. He also directed that the listing of those affected by the Babanusa events be reviewed to facilitate the provision to serve them. Jubara appealed to national and international organizations to assist and stand by the IDPs.
