AAAID Reveals Financing 4,280 Rural Women

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Arab Authority for Agricultural Investment and Development (AAAID), Dr. Obaid Saif Hamad Al Zaabi has revealed that the Authority’s contribution to enhancing Arab food security on a sustainable basis through a number of programs to transfer and localize modern agricultural technologies with the aim of increasing production and productivity.
He explained during the virtual dialogue of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations on “Involving the private sector in accelerating the transformation of agricultural food systems in the Near East and North Africa” yesterday.
He explained a number of challenges facing small and medium farmers and producers, including low productivity as a result of reliance on the traditional farming method, difficulty in obtaining the necessary financing for agriculture for reasons related to the nature of the sector, weak financial financing for small and medium farmers, difficulty in accessing markets, and weak competitiveness due to the small area of agricultural holdings and lack of production.
Indicating that an increase in groundnut productivity for small farmers in the Republic of Sudan was achieved during the period 2015-2021 by 182% after using integrated technical packages and modern technologies, in addition to an improvement in wheat crop productivity by 133%. He further said the number of beneficiaries reached about 287 thousand beneficiaries in the Arab countries during the period 2013-2022, new agricultural technologies were introduced, farmers’ awareness was raised, and they were linked to the AAAID’s companies and the market to sell their products at reasonable prices, in addition to providing direct and indirect job opportunities.
Pointing out that an considerable percentage of funding was allocated to rural women, which contributed to improving their standard of living, as the number of beneficiaries of financing agricultural activities in the Republic of Sudan, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and the Islamic Republic of Mauritania reached 4,280 women during the period 2013-2022.
