Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova commented on the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to exclude Russian skater Kamila Valeeva for four years.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) issued a ruling in the case of ice skater Kamila Valeeva, ruling that the Russian star be excluded for a period of four years, starting from December 25, 2021.

Accordingly, the International Skating Federation awarded the Russian team the bronze medal in the Figure Skating Championship at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing, instead of the gold that was awarded to the United States team.

Zakharva described the matter as another example of the politicization of sports.

She commented: “Another manifestation of unscrupulous competition to neutralize one of the strongest representatives of figure skating.”

She continued: “The Russian side will continue to defend the rights of our athletes before international organizations.”

Last Monday, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) announced in a statement regarding the case of the Russian skater, that the decision to deprive Kamila Valeeva of the gold medal in the team championship at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing and subsequent championships after the disqualification will be taken by the relevant sports organizations.
