The War in Sudan: Peace Initiatives and Fueling Conflict

Cairo – By: Nahid Oshi

The Egyptian Solidarity Committee in coordination with the Afro-Asian Journalists Union, have organized a symposium entitled: “The war in Sudan…peace initiatives and fueling conflict”
The former Egyptian Foreign Minister and Chairman of the Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs, Mohamed Al-Orabi, confirmed that Egypt’s interest in Sudanese issues is genuine and does not stem from interest or benefit, but rather is based on strategy and sincere brotherhood. He added that Egypt has never viewed Sudan as exploitative.
Sudanese unity:
He stressed that the unity of Sudan is important and said that
Sudan is going through the worst period in its history, and the humanitarian situation is worse than in Gaza, where Sudan is witnessing a humanitarian tragedy that it has never witnessed before.
During the symposium, he stated that Sudan represents national security for Egypt, and we cannot neglect Egyptian national security.
He noted that Sudan and Palestine are subject to conflict, wars and killings, and Cairo is monitoring the situation because the two states constitute Egypt’s national security. He said that Egyptian security cannot be achieved except with the stability of Sudan.
Praising the generosity of the Sudanese people, Egyptian national security will not be complete unless Sudan is stable.
He explained that the civil forces in Sudan had become weak. He revealed that at the same time, the Egyptian Council had drawn up a draft that would not be imposed on anyone to address the crisis. He said, “We have seen a great response from the Egyptian House of Representatives, and there will be no solution except from the Sudanese themselves.”
Rebuilding Sudan;
The Ambassador noted that Egypt stands with Sudan in its journey to rebuild and reconstruct, warning that many issues are being hijacked and the Sudanese issue is subject to pressure. External parties must remove their hands from Sudan.
He bemoaned the devastation that befell Sudan and its infrastructure, and said the solution is to have a strong army, which is a reason for economic and political stability.
He praised the Sudanese youth, who he said were educated, cultured, and religious, and made the Sudanese people distinguished.
The biggest disaster:
The journalist, Asmaa Al-Hussein, stated that Sudan is going through the largest disaster and crisis, as it is witnessing the largest displacement movement in the world, with 25 million Sudanese facing famine, in addition it is the only the country, which has become threatened due to the war.
She said that the war began as a military one, but now it has become racist, tribal, and regional. There are conspiracies, ambitions, and international and regional competition over Sudan, and division has struck Sudan while regional powers intervene in the Sudanese crisis line.
Lack of initiatives:
She pointed out that the Jeddah platform faltered due to the inability of initiatives and the intransigence of both parties. The international powers were lenient with the situation in Sudan.
Pointing out that there are major developments that may cause America to weigh in by appointing a special envoy through the gates of hell:
She said that the situation in Sudan opens the gates of hell to the entire region and affects everyone. She added that the fire that burns Khartoum also burns the region, and Egypt is the first to be affected, as the threat to Egypt’s water and border security will be from Sudan.
She praised President Sisi’s positive statements regarding those coming from Sudan, but she pointed out the existence of bureaucratic problems and called for the duration of residence for Sudanese to be one year and not six months, provided that there is a reunification. She added that the Sudanese people stood with us, favored us with a debt that we must repay to Sudan.
There must also be solidarity and cohesion with the Sudanese people
Arab Consensus:
She stressed the importance of Arab consensus for Sudan, so that no party can solve the crisis in Sudan alone. All international organizations are ringing alarm bells about the humanitarian situation and famine in Sudan.
Foreign naturalization:
Major General Hatem Bashat, former intelligence agent and former Egyptian consul in Sudan, warned against foreigner naturalization in Sudan from Chad, Libya, Mali, Cameroon and said that it is a foreign occupation project for Sudan with the aim of demographic and geopolitical change.
He considered what is happening now to be the beginning of the separation of western Sudan, followed by the occupation of Sudan and dividing it into five regions and then five countries. He said that foreign intelligence and suspicious organizations are controlling matters with the aim of stealing Sudan’s natural resources and erasing Sudanese cadres. He explained that the project is not related to Hemedti, but rather it is bigger than him and is just a tool for implementation. The project is such that the army, the state and the people are dismantled and Sudan presents cake to foreign parties and erases the history of Sudan.
Terrorist clean-ups:
He revealed the brainwashing of Sudanese youth in the diaspora by accusing them of laziness and inability to benefit from natural resources and weakening investment in the region, which is a special tactic used by the satanic faction with tribal and regional sponsorship.
It is expected that during 2024 there will be intense competition between terrorist organizations to recruit elements to attract them inside Sudan, which will be used later. About 300 female elements were recruited through ISIS, which will be used later.
He warned of the reverse migration of elements in Yemen, Chad and Libya, and the transfer of their new activity to Khartoum, moving from Darfur to Kassala and Gedaref. He stressed that the situation is dangerous, not for Sudan, but at the regional level, and said that there must be solidarity and wise action to confront the dangers.
Pointing out that what is happening in Sudan now, the main target is Egypt in the first place, as the security and safety of the two countries are linked to each other
He said that the Egyptian-Sudanese relationship is like the waters of the Nile, no matter how much it changes color or dries up, but the stream is there.
Bold move:
He stressed that Egypt’s position towards Sudan is strong. He said in the coming period, Egypt must take a bold step in its bias, and the complex of the Islamists must be forgotten, as they are the only ones defending what remains of Sudan’s unity, and all parties must unite because the situation cannot bear more than this. We look to the future with a new realism for the next stage. It must be under the name of effectiveness and universality.
He pointed to the challenges facing Egypt.
The Sudanese seek refuge in Egypt because the entity is one.
Psychological destruction:
Ibrahim Hamed, a specialist in African affairs, pointed out the Egyptian role in interacting with Sudanese issues, indicating the extent of the psychological devastation that the Sudanese people faced and the state of death and displacement. Sudanese political and civil pressure must be put in place. We must join hands to pay attention to urgent issues and alert the world to adhere to the unity of Sudan, land and people. He said, “We must call for an end to the war that is being fought.” He called it cursed. Consensual solutions must be developed
He said that the crisis in Sudan is targeting Egypt because Egypt is the only party capable of challenging Israel.
