Events – Agencies

The Irish Foreign Ministry affirmed the need for ceasefire and peace negotiations that would allow Sudan to restore its democratic transition.
The Irish Foreign Ministry affirmed in a press statement that the attacks launched by the warring military factions on hospitals and aid convoys, the refusal of humanitarian aid to arrive across the lines, and the looting of food stores are hindering the arrival of humanitarian aid.
“The parties to the conflict and their external sponsors must put an end to these practices and ensure adherence to their obligations under international humanitarian law,” It said.
The Irish Foreign Ministry called for those responsible politically and militarily to be held accountable for all violations.
It pledged to continue working within the European Union EU and with international partners to help secure ceasefire.
It pointed out international warnings that 18 million people in Sudan are facing acute hunger, and that one million people are on the verge of famine.
Ireland announced the provision of €5 million during the year 2024 to the United Nations Humanitarian Fund for Sudan.
