IGAD Appoints A special Envoy to Sudan

IGAD Executive Secretary Workneh Gebehu announced the appointment of Hon. Lawrence Korbandi of South Sudan as IGAD Special Envoy to the Republic of Sudan.
IGAD assigned Hon Korbandi a core role in good offices, actively participating and facilitating dialogue, searching for common ground in the Sudan crisis, and providing advice on the way forward.
Korbandi draws on two decades of experience in governance, international relations and diplomacy.
His distinguished career spans holding key government positions in South Sudan, including serving as a legal advisor to the President of South Sudan and contributing to numerous governmental and legal committees within the government , With a background as a legal practitioner and experienced diplomat.
Korbandi has extensive knowledge of the Horn of Africa, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) region and the Middle East, as well as a deep understanding of how regional and international organizations work.
Korbandi embodies the essential qualities for promoting dialogue and seeking solutions, including in his country.
IGAD said that his extensive experience and diplomatic acumen qualifies him flawlessly for the responsibilities entrusted to him.
Lawrence Korbandy, in his capacity as IGAD Special Envoy to the Republic of Sudan, affirmed IGAD’s commitment to addressing the Sudan crisis through diplomatic channels.
