The German Minister explained that during the next Euro, additional security measures will be implemented at all German border crossings in order to secure the country and prevent the entry of potential perpetrators of violence.
Germany took similar measures when it hosted the World Cup finals in 2006, when it temporarily suspended a European agreement to abolish border controls between European countries.
Germany is already imposing temporary controls on its borders with Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria and Switzerland, as part of efforts to combat migrant smuggling gangs.
