The Militia War Inflicts Heavy Losses on Fruit and Vegetable Producers
Sudan Events – Rehab Abdullah
The Head of the Vegetable and Fruit Exporters Division at Sudan Chambers of Commerce Union, Awadallah Mohammed, has revealed that vegetable and fruit exporters and producers suffered heavy losses, as a result of the outbreak of war between the Rapid Support Militia (RSF) and the Sudanese army in mid-April last year 2023.
He added, “The losses are countless, and after the war ends, they will have to start from zero,” and he expected some of them to leave the market.
In his statement to Al-Ahdath, Awadallah revealed that the export of vegetables and fruits had mainly stopped since the outbreak of the war, but he pointed to the export of “onions” on a limited basis during the past month after a gap occurred in the Gulf countries.
Awadallah confirmed that the transportation cost for exports had been doubled, and pointed out that many vegetables and fruits were exposed to damage.
Awadallah acknowledged that the prices of vegetables and fruits inside the country did not decrease after the cessation of exports, and he justified this because everyone was looking to achieve the greatest return and the did not care about Sudanese people.
