WHO Succeeds in delivering Medical Supplies to Sudan via S. Sudan

Sudan Events – Agencies
The World Health Organisation WHO announced that it was able to deliver more than 50 metric tons of medical supplies to the Blue Nile and Nuba Mountains areas in Sudan, which is expected to serve about 830,000 people during the next three months.
The ongoing conflict in Sudan has significantly hampered the ability of the WHO Sudan office to access and deliver essential emergency medical supplies to the Blue Nile and Nuba Mountains regions.
In response, the office cooperated with its counterpart in the neighboring country of South Sudan to facilitate the delivery of these basic supplies, as the organization’s office in South Sudan stored the required quantities of stocks in the areas adjacent to the Sudanese border in preparation for transporting them to the areas affected by the conflict.
The representative of the World Health Organization WHO in South Sudan, Dr. Humphrey Karamage, according to the United Nations News Center UNNC said on Wednesday: “Since logistics plays a crucial role in emergency response, we must have strong logistics capacity to ensure rapid delivery of supplies to affected areas.
This includes having strong transportation networks, inventories and an efficient distribution system.”
These supplies included inter-agency emergency health kits, cholera screening and treatment kits, measles and non-communicable disease management tools medical complications associated with severe acute malnutrition in children under five, and emergency trauma and surgical management tools.
It is noteworthy that this is the second time that the organization’s office in South Sudan has been able to deliver aid to Sudan since the outbreak of war in April 2023.
