The spokesman for the International Committee of the Red Cross, Adnan Hizam, said that they have provided 66,000 communication calls between families that have been separated since the outbreak of war in April 2023. They were also able, at the request of the parties to the fighting, to facilitate the release of (500) detainees held by both sides.
Hizam confirmed, according to (Al-Sudani), that the humanitarian situation in Sudan has become tragic in light of the scarcity of funding for the humanitarian response. He added that 80% of health facilities have become non-functional, and what remains is working with few resources and very fewer medical personnel. He pointed out that they were able to provide some interventions in the field of surgery so that hospitals can perform surgeries.
The Red Cross spokesman noted that the ongoing conflict in Sudan has affected the psychology of the Sudanese, and continued: “There are psychological cases as a result of the fighting. There are many questions from those we meet about the unknown fate. In addition, the conflict has affected many families who have been separated.”
He pointed out that the fighting had a significant impact on all vital and service sectors, noting that the Red Cross, up to this moment, provides humanitarian aid, whether life-saving aid or water services, which included two million citizens, but the current humanitarian reality has created very large humanitarian needs and is one of the challenges in light of the scarcity. In financing these protests, there is a major challenge in reaching the victims of the conflict and providing them with humanitarian aid.
