Sudan Events – Aya Ibrahim

Today, April 15, marks one year since the RSF Militia’s rebellion against the Sudanese Armed Forces, during which the Sudanese citizen recalls the memory of his/ her pain due to the violations that the RSF Militia has practiced and is still carrying out at various levels since the first bullet was fired, leaving behind difficult humanitarian conditions. On the other hand, optimism has become clear among the Sudanese as a result of the great progress made by the army in a number of areas on the battlefield heralds an imminent victory over the militia.
Displacement of millions:
The latest report by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) revealed that about 10.7 million people have been displaced due to the conflict in Sudan, including 9 million inside the country, while 1.7 million have fled to neighboring countries since the beginning of the war, while more than 13,000 people have been killed and 8,000 others wounded.
Tragic situations
On the other hand, the official spokesman for the General Coordination for Displaced Persons and Refugees in the Darfur region, Adam Riejal, revealed the death of 443 children in Kalma camp since the start of the war until last March due to acute malnutrition, in addition to the death of pregnant and breastfeeding women due to complications and abortions. He said, “We conducted a survey in the camp and found that out of ten families, eight eat one meal, yet there are no nutrients in it, and that two children die every 12 hours, and that acute malnutrition centers receive between 14 and 18 children daily.”
Riejal pointed out to (Sudan Events) that there is a complete collapse of the humanitarian conditions in the displacement camps in the Darfur region and that the situation is almost out of control, pointing to the attempt of international organizations, including the World Food Program (WFP), to withdraw their international employees outside Sudan, on which the people of Darfur depend because they fill the shortage along with agriculture and business. The marginal activity that stopped due to the security situation led to a process of collapse and the specter of famine and lack of food and medicine security.
Regarding the health situation, the official spokesman for the General Coordination for Displaced Persons and Refugees in the Darfur region pointed to the lack of life-saving medicines in addition to the emergence of many diseases. He said that there are diseases that have not been diagnosed by doctors due to the lack of doctors, and he called for the necessity of conducting urgent interventions and providing aid. He appealed to both sides of the conflict to cease fire and return. For the language of the mind and opening humanitarian paths to deliver it immediately, he also appealed to donors in the world to contribute to saving the lives of millions of Sudanese from death.
Army advance:
On the ground, the Sudanese Armed Forces achieved broad victories over the militia in a number of areas in the capital, Khartoum, and other states, most recently in Omdurman, where they were able to regain control of the radio and television headquarters and a number of neighborhoods, and the army is still advancing there in order to expel what remains of the rebellion. The army also launched a major military campaign. In Khartoum Bahri since last March, it achieved progress in the north of the city and is heading south towards other areas to liberate them.
A military source, who preferred to withhold his identity, told (Sudan Events) that the army controls large areas in the Khartoum axis, including Al-Shajara, Al-Hammadab, and parts of Yathrib, Jabra, and Al-Lamap. His statement was reinforced by the progress of the armed forces in Khartoum State by expanding its security circle and the reverse return of citizens to their homes from safe states and neighboring countries. .
In the states, the army continues its march towards Medani to liberate it from the rebellion after its successive victories and repelling militia attacks in Al-Faw, Gedaref State, and Babanusa in West Kordofan, and towards the Sennar Sugar Factory.
Improved position
Military expert Omar Arbab believes that the circle of war is expanding with the entry of new areas into its circle, which means that the war has not yet reached its peak. He said that the opening of new fronts is still on the scene.
Arbab pointed out to (Sudan Events) that the army’s field position had improved through its control over state institutions, and pointed out that the RSF militia had lost many of its supporters due to the crimes it committed.
He said that the army is dealing with a long-term policy to exhaust the militia. On the other hand, the militia is suffering greatly due to the pressures imposed on it internationally and internal pressure, which is causing it to lose acceptance among the Sudanese people. He pointed out that the militia cannot market itself for any future political role in the next stage except through facades. But it is difficult to advance as individuals or as forces except through a fait accompli policy, or to impose this will on the army and the street by force of arms. However, he came back and said that the militia is trying to reach an agreement that guarantees what remains of its face.
Rebellion obstructed
Observers confirm that the improvement of the humanitarian conditions is linked to the progress of the armed forces on the ground more and more and the defeat of the rebellion that obstructs the arrival of humanitarian aid in areas under its control. They indicate this by the militia’s previous obstruction of humanitarian aid that was on its way to the Darfur region after the army targeted a convoy of militia forces on the outskirts of the city of Melit. In the state of North Darfur, following its attempt to prevent vehicles carrying relief materials from reaching the city of El Fasher, they also point out that the humanitarian conditions will improve as soon as the militia leaves the homes of citizens and civil facilities and commits to implementing the Jeddah Agreement.
