French President Emmanuel Macron has announced during the international conference on Sudan held in Paris, on Monday, that donors have pledged to provide more than two billion euros ($2.13 billion), coinciding with the first anniversary of the start of the Sudan war, at a time when the Sudanese government boycotted the conference because it was not consulted about it.
Macron said: “We can announce that in total more than two billion euros will be mobilized,” noting that the commitments recorded before the conference, on Monday, amounted to only 190 million euros.
He pointed out that “this support will allow responding to the most urgent needs in the sectors of food and nutrition security, health, water and sanitation, education, and protecting the most vulnerable.”
The French President “officially” called on both parties to the conflict to respect international humanitarian law and protect civilians.
“We urge them to immediately cease fire in order to allow humanitarian actors to reach all Sudanese,” he said.
“Aid access should not be used as a weapon,” he added
