During the year of the war, nearly fifty Sudanese poets, creators, musicians, and playwrights passed away in great silence. Some of them did not have a farewell moment or a mourning pavilion after the ongoing war bullets in the capital, Khartoum, since mid-April last year prevented thousands of their fans from bidding farewell to them, as was the custom before the war, due to the rain of shells in their homes, or their whereabouts, or because they did not receive treatment and health care due to the dangerous security conditions in the three cities of the capital, a number of the country’s leading poets, musicians, and artists died during the current war, the most recent of whom was the deceased musician, Muhammad Hassan al-Sanjak, the famous saxophone player, after his hom in the Doha neighborhood in Omdurman was hit by a shell. The deceased contributed to enriching the television and radio library with recordings with major artists.
During the same year, Sudan lost the musician and composer Omar Al-Shaer, who had composed so many works during his artistic career, which lasted about 50 years. The most beautiful and immortal pieces in the memory of Sudanese art, which were sung by the most famous artists.
The poet Al-Sadiq Elias also passed away after suffering from illness, which was exacerbated by the lack of medicine and treatment because of war.
It is noteworthy that the poet Abdul Aziz Jamal Al-Din died after suffering a health attack out of grief over the death of his sister due to the ongoing fighting in Khartoum.
The artist Asya Abdel Majed, the widow of the great poet Mohamed Al-Fitouri, also died after she was injured by shrapnel. According to press reports, she was buried inside the building of an educational institution she owns in the Khartoum Bahri area after it was not possible to bury her in any public cemetery due to the intensity of the fighting.
The year of war took the flute player Hafez Abdel Rahman, who for more than 5 decades shaped the conscience of music lovers.
Also, the artistic community was saddened by the passing of the young artist, Shaden Muhammad Hussein, after a shell fell in her home in the city of Omdurman.
Arki Mukhtar, a member of the “Iqd Al-Jalad” singing group, was also a victim of the war. The death of musician Khaled Sanhouri was one of the events that shook the consciences of the local and international community. He was found dead in his home in the Al-Malazemin neighborhood in Omdurman as a result of a severe drop in blood circulation after he lived for days without food or drink under difficult conditions and a power outage due to the raging fighting in the area. He was buried in front of his house.
During the last month of Ramadan, the death of the artist Mawada Al-Hanina, who had been detained by the Rapid Support Forces for three months, was announced.
